A reminder to all employees of the importance of following clean desk and secure workspace practices to help protect university property, sensitive information and personal items. Maintaining a secure workspace includes the following best practices:
Clean desk and end-of-day security
- Ensure all private VIU documents, keys and valuables are secured in locked cabinets or drawers.
- Log off or lock and secure your workstation whenever it is unattended.
- Please ensure your office door is locked at the end of the day.
Secure workspaces and valuable items
- Keep offices, classrooms, labs and storage areas locked when not in use.
- Secure sensitive equipment, documents and personal belongings in appropriate storage areas.
Stay aware and report suspicious activity
- If you observe unfamiliar individuals, unusual behaviour or signs of tampering, make note of the details and contact Campus Security promptly.
Access control
- Do not prop open exterior doors or permit tailgating into secured spaces.
- Keep your access card and keys secure and report any lost items immediately.
